Pippali is also known as Long Pepper and belongs to the family of black peppers. The Pippali plant is native to northeastern and southern India and is also found in Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. The elongated seedpods of this plant are 2.5 to 3.5 cm long and 5 mm thick. The color is dark green and the smell very fragrant.
Pippali is described in Ayurveda as an effective herb for the digestive and respiratory systems. Pippali is strongly "heating" and has a revitalizing effect on weakened organic functions.
