Mustha is known to many people around the world under the botanical name Cyperus rotundus. In many parts of the world, Mustha, also known as Mustaka, is considered an invasive plant.
There is evidence that mustha was already used as food in the Stone Age. And it is still used as food in parts of the world today.
In India, Mustha is used in many ways and has a wide range of applications, e.g. to reduce soil erosion or as a component of a medicine cabinet at home. In Ayurveda, Mustha is considered a readily available alternative for Aconitum heterophyllum, Abhava pratinidhi dravya.
In India, Mustha is found in many creams for external use. It is traditionally used, like Manjishta, to lighten the complexion, but also for skin care.
