Chyavanprash – the traditional Ayurvedic herbal puree
The Govinda organic Chyavanprash is traditionally prepared in India according to a millennia-old recipe of Ayurveda. This tasty organic herbal fruit puree is made from the fresh pulp of the amla fruit (Amalaki), gur (thickened, natural sugar cane juice) and various Ayurvedic herbs. Chyavanprash has retained its special significance in Ayurveda for centuries.
The production of Chyavanprash according to an Ayurvedic recipe
The production site of Govinda’s organic Chyavanprash is located near the city of Pune in the district of Maharashtra, India. Expert herbalists work hand in hand with local farmers to procure the appropriate ingredients fresh every day.
First, the spices, herbs and amla fruits are mixed with crystallised cane sugar ("gur" or "goor") that has been dried in the sun. A grinder crushes and mixes the whole thing. To achieve a durable, spreadable mass, the mixture is gently cooked for a certain period of time. After cooling, the mass is hung in nettle cloth to drain. After 24 hours, the excess juice is drained off, the pulpy mixture is now blended and finally filled into wooden barrels made of the finest mango wood.
The result is a mild, delicious, sour-sweet-herbaceous fruit puree, which can either be used as a bread spread or enjoyed with a teaspoon (best in the morning 1-2 teaspoons) with some warm milk.
