Bilva (botanical name: Aegle marmelos) is a thorny, up to 8 m high deciduous tree with yellow, grapefruit-like fruits. In the ayurvedic diet, the pith of ripe and unripe fruits is used, as well as the leaves, root bark and flowers.
The Bilva Churna from Nimi Ayurveda is made from bilva bark.
In the tradition of India, Bilva is given a high status. Bilva is considered sacred by the Hindus and is called Shivaduma: the tree of Shiva. Its use is already described in the Charaka Samitha, the oldest surviving work on which the Ayurvedic tradition is based.

Preparation / Usage:
One level teaspoon a day, preferably split into 2 portions, with warm water between meals. The daily intake of 3.20 g herbal powder contains 219.84 mg of polyphenols*.
